cut is the SINGLE most important factor in diamond buying.
not only is it one of the most complex to understand, but without a well-cut stone, nothing else matters.
there are 3 factors that make up the cut of a diamond
~ proportions: are measurements like the table size, crown angle, and total depth
~ symmetry: assesses how the facet junctions and the crown-pavilion facets align
~ polish: refers to the surface of the diamond, common remnants (at varying degrees) left on the stone from polishing are scratches and burn marks
insider fact: exquisite cuts, especially in fancy shapes, are few and far between. the bigger the stone, the fewer there are. being ‘the best of the best’, these stones command a premium and they are highly sought after.
